What inspired you to write The Timeless Globe?

It all began some years ago when a colleague working in Africa called my boss and said, “what do you do if you believe you’ve uncovered a major fraud and your life is in danger?” My manager asked me to fly out to investigate. While fictionalised, the experience gave me the idea to write a novel both trying to capture some of the excitement of that trip, imagining what could have occurred if some of the dangers had materialised, as well as combining it with other adventures from a life-long career spent travelling the globe.

How did you go about writing the novel?

I wanted to combine a mystery thriller, with a teenager's coming-of-age story as he navigates grief following his dad's untimely death. I used the vehicle of dreams and the discovery of old letters in the attic to unravel the mystery, while enabling Danny to resolve his grief as he gains a new understanding of the person his dad really was.  I also wanted to expand the quest for personal truth into a broader exploration of what truth itself means, given its relevance to life in the 21st Century.
